Throughout the 1970s, using drugs, David Crosby at times may have had trouble remembering his own name. That’s the title of the album from which this 1971 song comes: If Only I Could Remember My Name. To assist him, Crosby had the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane and others play with him to craft a unique pyschedelic, jazzy gospel hybrid about who the leaders really are.
I wonder who they are
The men who really run this land
And I wonder why they run it
With such a thoughtless hand
Crosby thinks that working for peace should be the default position of these politicians.
