Foo Fighters – My Hero

2008 Republican Presidential candidate John McCain was using this 1998 song at campaign rallies. The band, which came up with this tune to celebrate ordinary heroes, objected to the war hero using it without permission:

The saddest thing about this is that ‘My Hero’ was written as a celebration of the common man and his extraordinary potential. To have it appropriated without our knowledge and used in a manner that perverts the original sentiment of the lyric just tarnishes the song.”

McCain also got in hot water for using Jackson Browne’s “Running on Empty” without permission.
