The Royal Guardsmen – Snoopy’s Christmas

Paul McCartney sang in the Pipes of Peace about a temporary truce in the First World War. The novelty act Royal Guardsmen expressed their messages against war, though oddly, through the Peanuts comic strip character of Snoopy! Instead of shooting down his plane, the Red Baron forces Snoopy to land, and toasts his adversary. It’s almost too precious and preposterous a truce to make for a realistic message for peace. Yet that the sound of Christmas bells ringing out would unite people and help them put their divisions aside, is comforting to imagine.
