Macklemore And Ryan Lewis – Same Love

At some point, songs standing up for gay rights won’t seem so bold by their increasing numbers. It would be as if contemporary artists feel obliged to write on the topic in the same way that 1970s rockers hollered about the travails of life on the road.

To freshen the pot, however, this 2012 rap song is specifically targeted at supporting same-sex marriage.

Washington state did legalize this union through a referendum (#74). This song was part of the debate leading to the vote, November 2012, which succeeded with about 53% support. A rap song may thus have played a small role in changing public policy.
