Sheena Easton – Morning Train (9 To 5)

A Motown-styled song about commuting? How far away in the suburbs does Sheena’s hubby (assuming they’re hitched) live that he must take a real train to get to the office?

The video might have Sheena flirting with the engineer, but otherwise the 1980 tune seems to be a traditional, family values type of even anti-feminist ditty. So while the lyrics may be encouraging for married couples to know that they support each other, and outside of working hours, have nice times together, others are going to be hard on Sheena. Does she have an identity apart from her husband?

Meanwhile, back in 1980, Dolly Parton was working 9 to 5.
